The Wedding Car
Choosing your ideal wedding car
Choosing your ideal wedding car
Cars are part of our everyday lives. For some of us, it is just a matter of four wheels transporting us to our next destination, for others it is the equivalent of a child that needs to be tucked in at night. If you are James Bond, then you have definitely considered how the car might create a dramatic backdrop to your storyline. However, maybe, if you are a bride and groom, you should think carefully about how your wedding sets the scene of your wedding photo shoot too.
What wedding car?
The first crucial question is what vehicle you want for your wedding. It may be that it is just transport — so calling for an Uber or putting a bit of ribbon on Uncle Dave's Golf will do the job. We can work with this, we can make it so that the pictures are fun, or we can avoid the arrival at the church and the departure of the newly-weds. You are always in control of the story you tell about your day in your photographs.
Let's imagine though that you invest in the most beautiful piece of metal. There is style, there is glamour, there is a chauffeur in a hat — and it is the hat that tops it off! Then, imagine the movie-star feel as your leg and dress emerge at the church. A Rolls Royce or a Jaguar, those classically shaped cars, are fantastic subjects for wedding photographers, as they add lines that enhance the composition of your images. They also project sex appeal — the happy couple on the bonnet of the car sharing an intimate kiss is one of the most beautiful wedding photographs you could have in your collection!
This might not fit your personality – we get that too! We are more a Mini than a Jag. There is nothing more amusing than watching the blancmange of a wedding dress skirt ping out of the back of a mini. We could even try some couple's photos in the back of the mini – though there may be a need for some weird posing to fit us all in there – but, we can give anything a go – even if the groom's legs will likely be somewhere around the bride's ears!
Better still maybe, get yourself a class T2 VW van and capture than the bohemian feel of the couple you are at this point in your lives. And then, there is the convertible, then we would be able to capture the veil billowing behind as the car pulls away.
When the car becomes the star
You may wonder at what point in the day the car could possibly become the star of the show? You arrive and leave from the church, and then maybe there is the moment you exit the reception for the honeymoon, with tin cans tapping against the gravel tied to the back bumper.
The first big photo shoot is the arrival of the bride at the church. The father of the bride and the bride herself huddled together in the back of the car. This is particularly lovely if it is a classic old Ford and the back is clearly seen from outside. You can capture a look between family members that tells a story of the relationship they share.
Then, after the guests have left the church for the reception, the couple are left behind for some moments of solitude. This is the perfect time for a private photoshoot, and the car becomes the perfect backdrop. The other option is a tree, or maybe the local village pond, or just leave the setting empty. However, a stylish, luxurious car is just the most perfect accessory. With a skilful photographer, we can take you and your car and give the impression that you are alone in the world together, even in busy London streets. Just look at what we capture for this special couple's day with some imagination and only a short journey.
Using the car in your photographs will only take an extra 20 minutes or so in your day, but we think that the photos will enhance your album. It could be the sexy, charming, cute, funny cherry on the wedding day photography cake.
